Family of Survivors Program
October
Family of Survivors program, dedicated in memory of
Frances Acker Fuller, pays tribute to the many individuals
from Northeastern Pennsylvania who have been touched by
cancer—the Family of Survivors— which includes cancer
survivors, their families and friends, as well as
caregivers and healthcare professionals.
The event features words of support and reflection from
guest speakers, a survivors circle, and personal
reflection amongst the Spires of Survivors’
Park.
Anyone who has been touched by cancer is invited to
participate. The program is held at Cancer Survivors Park
at McDade Park in Scranton.
It's all in
the Game!
November
It’s all in the Game! is
an evening of fun and games to benefit the Northeast
Regional Cancer Institute. The proceeds from It’s all in
the Game! support the continued development and
distribution of The Cancer Resources Guide.
Participants form teams and compete as they play games
such as Pictionary, Family Feud, and Celebrity.
The event is $40 per person and includes games,
cocktails, food, music, and an awards ceremony at the end
of the night.
CASUAL Day
March
C.A.S.U.A.L. (Colon cancer Awareness Saves
Unlimited Adult Lives) Day is a program to raise awareness
for colon cancer in Northeastern Pennsylvania and the
importance of screening and early detection. The funds
raised from this event are used to support the Targeted
Colorectal Cancer Awareness Program (TCCAP).
On this day participants dress C.A.S.U.A.L. while wearing
a pin to promote awareness for colon cancer. The event is
in memory of Helen Phillips, a woman who fought a
courageous battle against colon cancer and died in the
summer of 2002.
Participants pay $5 for a pin or $15 for a t-shirt, and
dress casual to raise awareness for colon cancer, which is
significantly more common in Northeastern Pennsylvania
than the U.S. as a whole.
Survivors
Celebration
June
Survivors Celebration is an annual event held in
honor of all of the people from Northeastern Pennsylvania
who are coping with cancer in their lives and those who
are now free of the disease.
Each year, more than 1,500 members of the Family of
Survivors—which includes cancer survivors, their families
and friends, as well as caregivers and healthcare
professionals—attend the festivities, which include music,
food, useful health information, and most importantly,
friends.
