tarting a new life in a different environment is not easy. Finding a job is
critical for the individual to survive and support a family. The individual
also needs to secure adequate housing and health services. This alone
can be overwhelming for an individual.
The Hispanic population is one of many minority groups in the United
States currently suffering from lack of medical attention. Women, children and
the elderly often suffer the most. The new immigrant finds, with surprise, that
medical services are extremely expensive and without medical insurance they
simply cannot afford the care needed.
Diseases like cancer, diabetes, and AIDS are the most common and
require urgent medical attention.
Focusing on medical services, housing and care for children and the
elderly can help to improve the care and quality of life for these minority and
special population groups. Technology has allowed tremendous
advancements in medical care. These advancements can be used to fight
diseases such as cancer.
Together we can do a lot to improve the alarming statistics surrounding
minorities and cancer; we simply need compassion and a community effort.
After all, we are collectively members of Northeastern Pennsylvania.
