CANCER INSTITUTE PROGRAMS AND SERVICES
T
he Cancer Institute
Cancer Epidemiology Research Program
, established in 2000,
studies the incidence, distribution, and control of cancer in Northeastern
Pennsylvania. Study results are used for research strategies and to design
targeted education and prevention programs.
The Cancer Institute offers a variety of programs through its
Education and
Outreach Programs
to the community, healthcare professionals, and organizations to
increase awareness about the prevention, early detection, and treatment of cancer.
The Cancer Institute also offers specific programs, support services and publications
for individuals coping with cancer, including patients, their family members, friends,
and caregivers.
The Cancer Institute
Cancer Risk Program
provides free education and
counseling to individuals and families who have concerns about their family history
of cancer. Free education programs about cancer risk are also offered to individuals,
healthcare professionals and the general public.
The Cancer Institute
Regional Cancer Registry
works with our member
institutions, physicians, and clinics to provide cancer data collection and support
services. Certified cancer registrars record and report cancer diagnosis, treatment
outcomes, and clinical research statistics. This data is reported to the Pennsylvania
Cancer Registry and is also being used for analysis by Cancer Institute researchers.
